- For Boxing – Yes. You will be doing pad round of striking for 30 minutes and then holding for someone for 30 minutes. You can make this very easy on yourself or very hard on yourself.
- For BJJ – The instruction portion is not difficult at all and so it is not as good of exercise until you start rolling and then it is a very intense workout.
- What is the best place to purchase a gi?
- You can purchase a Sanabul through Amazon. This is a great gi and only about $75 which is very very cheap for a gi, but it’s a super high-quality gi and most people at the gym have them. We also have some available at the gym for $75

- You can wear a cup if you would like however most people don’t. A mouth guard however is a necessity. For boxing we suggest a headgear only if you plan on competing. For kickboxing you need a mouth guard and shin guards.
- How often should I train, as a beginner?
- We always suggest 2x a week for the first 2 months then you can go up from there. This gives the body time to adjust to the new workouts.
- Will Martial Arts teach my child to resort to violence?
- We focus on teaching sport jiu-jitsu to kids for competition, but this helps with self-defense outside of the gym. The kids are often reminded that they can only use this in a gym setting unless they need to for self-defense.
- Does my child run the risk of injury at your facility?
- There is always a risk for injury but our staff works really hard not to let that happen. As of right now, we have had no major injuries in the kids class.
- Will my child have fun in your class, or is it more of a strict, structured environment?
- Our BJJ class for kids is structured, however, they will be learning in a less strict environment compared to traditional martial arts.
- Is the gym beneficial for women?
- Of course! It’s great exercise, great self-defense and about 35% of our clients are women.
- What is a Gi and why do I have to wear one?
- The gi is a traditional outfit worn by many martial arts. For BJJ it is a thicker material that allows you to grab the material. At our gym, you are not required to wear one but I highly suggest it. It gives you an option to slow the training down and allow someone to learn more while not relying on other attributes like strength and speed.
- I’m not sure if Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be right for me. Is there any way I can try a class before signing up?
- For sure, the initial week is free!
- What should I expect in my first class?
- Everyone is very kind and will help you learn your techniques. You can come in early if you want to observe.
