What to wear

  • What do I wear to practice/train?
    • For BJJ – T-Shirt, and Shorts.
      • Additional Gear not required: Gi ($75), Mouth guard ($10)
  • Do I need any protective equipment?
    • You can wear a cup if you would like however most people don’t. A mouth guard however is a necessity.
  • What is a Gi and why do I have to wear one?
    • The gi is a traditional outfit worn by many martial arts. For BJJ it is a thicker material that allows you to grab the material. At our gym, you are not required to wear one but I highly suggest it. It gives you an option to slow the training down and allow someone to learn more while not relying on other attributes like strength and speed.
  • What is the best place to purchase a gi?
    • You can purchase a Sanabul through Amazon. This is a great gi and only about $75 which is very very cheap for a gi, but it’s a super high-quality gi and most people at the gym have them. We also have some available at the gym for $75

      • For BJJ – The instruction portion is not difficult at all and so it is not as good of exercise until you start rolling and then it is a very intense workout.

      • We always suggest 2x a week for the first 2 months then you can go up from there. This gives the body time to adjust to the new workouts.

      • Of course! It’s great exercise, great self-defense and about 35% of our clients are women.
    • I’m not sure if Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be right for me. Is there any way I can try a class before signing up?
      • For sure, the first class is free!
    • What should I expect in my first class?
