What to wear
- What do they wear to practice/train?
- For BJJ – T-Shirt, and Shorts.
- Additional Gear not required: Gi ($75), Mouth guard ($10)
- Do they need any protective equipment?
- They can wear a cup if you would like however most people don’t. A mouth guard however is a necessity.
- What is a Gi and why do they have to wear one?
- The gi is a traditional outfit worn by many martial arts. For BJJ it is a thicker material that allows them to grab the material. At our gym, they are not required to wear one but I highly suggest it. It gives them an option to slow the training down and allow someone to learn more while not relying on other attributes like strength and speed.
- What is the best place to purchase a gi?
- You can purchase a Sanabul through Amazon. This is a great gi and only about $75 which is very very cheap for a gi, but it’s a super high-quality gi and most people at the gym have them. We also have some available at the gym for $75

- Are the classes good exercise?
- For BJJ – The instruction portion is not difficult at all and so it is not as good of exercise until they start rolling and then it is a very intense workout.

- We always suggest 2x a week for the first 2 months then they can go up from there. This gives the body time to adjust to the new workouts.

- Of course! It’s great exercise, great self-defense and about 35% of our clients are women.
- I’m not sure if Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be right for them. Is there any way they can try a class before signing up?
- For sure, the first class is free!
- What should I expect in my first class?
- Everyone is very kind and will help them learn their techniques. They can come in early if you want to observe.
